I am excited about two resolutions passed this evening at the Park Advisory Commission meeting. The first, which I co-sponsored, proposes a one year trial to remove park rental fees from Liberty Plaza. My hope is that removing the cost barrier will bring innovative social and cultural programming to a space in need of positive activation.
The second resolution recommends (finally!) moving forward with the Skatepark in Veterans Memorial Park. Despite the financial challenges of the last number of years, community advocates worked with City staff to creatively leverage funding from the county, state, and private donors to turn their vision into a reality. If the weather cooperates, we could have a world-class skatepark by November of this year!
